It is not surprising the Western Algarve is
one of the world’s most popular destinations for golfing
holidays. With a fantastic climate of over 300 days of sunshine
a year, it is one of the few areas of Europe with all year round
golf appeal, not to mention the quality of the courses in the
region!

Why not bring your group to the Casa das Estevas
for a tailor-made golfing break? From October to May we can offer
full-week Algarve golf holidays as well as short weekend and
midweek golf breaks. Your stay can either be purely golf based,
or integrated with other non-golfing pursuits. Non-golfing partners
can partake in an array of alternative Algarve holiday activities
and sightseeing opportunities, which can easily be incorporated
whilst the golfers play the course.

GOLF COURSES
Parque da Floresta
With no two holes remotely similar, the variety and appeal of this unique course are endless. Meandering
through the undulating terrain, it offers fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. The layout
is challenging, with a variety of interesting and unusual holes built on mainly hilly terrain with both coastal and inland views. Travelling
time from Salema: 5 minutes.
Holes: 18. Length: 5,673 metres. Par: 72.
Extras: PGA Golf Academy. Boavista
This new addition to the Western Algarve is a superb course set
above the town of Lagos. There are a fascinating variety of holes
and some interesting water features. Set within a 260-acre area,
much of this spectacular course is surrounded by land being left
in its natural undeveloped state. Designed by Howard Swan, it is
built on naturally rolling terrain with hundreds of indigenous
trees and palms. The course affords golfers spectacular views over
nearby Lagos and the western coastline, as well as inland towards
the Monchique hills. Travelling
time from Salema: 15 minutes.
Holes: 18. Length: 6,053 metres. Par: 72.
Extras: Driving range.
Palmares
Set amongst the almond blossom in the rolling hills above Lagos,
Palmares is one of the original courses in the Western Algarve.
The course is famous for its annual Almond Blossom tournament week
in early February. The breathtaking scenery can be appreciated
from most of the course, with views over the Alvor river estuary,
beaches and the bay of Lagos. On the outward nine, there are five
authentic links holes amongst the dunes close to the ocean exposed
to the prevailing winds. The most demanding hole is the long par-5
fifth running roughly parallel to the shore. The other holes extend
throughout hillsides and valleys with almond and fig trees, palms
and pines. Travelling time from
Salema: 25 minutes.
Holes: 18. Length: 5,961 metres. Par: 71.
Extras: Driving range.
Penina
Sir Henry Cotton's creation in the 1970's,
this masterpiece Championship course has been host to a multitude
of competitions over the years
including the Portuguese Open. The imposing Le Meridien Penina
overlooks the course, built on flattish parkland terrain with fairways
lined by countless trees, and containing several tricky water hazards.
It includes several long par-3 and par-4 holes, requiring both
length and accuracy. Two of the memorable holes are the scenic
dogleg 5th par-5 with a canal, lake and contoured green, and the
daunting 197m long par-3 thirteenth with water on the right all
the way to the putting surface. Travelling
time from Salema: 35 minutes.
Holes: 18. Length: 6,343 metres. Par: 73.
Extras: Golf Academy.
Alto
Opened in 1991, this 18 hole, par-72 golf
course, was the last to be designed by the legendary Sir Henry
Cotton. The winding fairways
and elevated greens looking over the Ocean and towards Monchique
hills reflect Sir Henry’s golfing philosophy of providing
low handicap players with a testing game, whilst still affording
plenty of enjoyment for players at average club level. The impressive
16th hole measuring 604 metres from the tiger tee is one of the
longest par-5’s in Europe. Apart from this formidable hole
and perhaps the tricky par-4 tenth, the course is not overly difficult
and can be enjoyed by golfers of all standards.
Travelling time from Salema: 45 minutes.
Holes: 18. Length: 6,125 metres. Par: 72.
Extras: Driving range and chipping green.
